Episode 13
There have been a handful of business (and life!) books that stood out to me--lets talk about them!
The main ones we cover here are The Emyth, We Should All Be Millionaires, and The Last Lecture!
I give my main points and takeaways, and then touch on other books I'm reading/have read lately, and what I want to read next!
If you've read any of these pleeeease hit me up, I love unpacking books together!!
Episode 12
Let's break down some of the elements that create certain styles and emotions in your floral designs!
Some of the strongest tools to do this (in my opinion!) are shape, color, and texture; different combinations of these elements can create a look that runs the gamut from sleek/polished/streamlined to whimsical/wildflowery/cottage-core.
SO let's unpack some ways to do this AND practical tips on how to hone in on a specific style that you want to create for a client!
Episode 11
Here are some practical tips on collecting inspiration photos for your couples and pulling a central color palette and style from those photos! We will talk about what photos to ask your couples to send, what to do when their inspiration is not 100 percent cohesive, and how to clear up their design style when you see contradictions
Episode 10
Here is a quick and simple rundown of how I like to make wrist corsages for wedding work! I typically use elastic wristbands (unless the couple requests otherwise) and a combination of wire, glue, and moss mechanics. This system has been honed in over the years (and is sometimes tweaked for specific styles) but gives a consistent look AND quality to my designs!
Episode 09
While there are MANY factors to be considered when deciding whether to start your own business in wedding flowers, this chat mainly covers the differences in being the owner of a floral design company vs working as a floral designer!
Episode 08
A lesson I learned in business was that MY mindset about money was blocking me from best serving my client!!
If a price quote felt like “a lot” to ME I was watering down the order, pricing to the budget, and not giving the couple the chance to spend for their DREAM vision! You should feel confident in your pricing strategy, the value of your product/service, and not be afraid to send that quote!!
Episode 07
Price minimums for wedding orders are SO important. They allow you to align with your client, reach your income goals, and can even help target clients with your ideal aesthetic!
How I went as long as I did without a minimum, I will never know, but I’m here to make sure you don’t make the same mistake!
Episode 06
As a wedding florist, I have had my share of mixed feelings about styled photo shoots. Styled shoots are a great tool when used RIGHT This chat episode dives into getting more than just pretty photos out of your styled shoots—because to be honest, the benefits beyond just the photos is where the REAL value lives!
Episode 05
If you put yourself into a box as “not a naturally creative person” you will create a self-fulfilling prophecy. But what if you could believe that you can practice and become more creative in your business?? Because you totally CAN.
Creativity comes in many forms, but what most people immediately think of is the artful side—matching colors, creating textures, and working with the elements and principles of design.
Episode 04
This is how I currently package personal flowers for weddings--including the bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages! Over 9 plus years I have honed in on systems that maximize ease and beauty for the client AND my self/my staff on wedding day.
Episode 03
Today we dive into creating a recipe for a bouquet--mostly in the context of bridal or bridesmaid bouquets. There is no concrete formula that I use all the time, which gives you the flexibility to tailor the bouquet to your own style and the client's style vision!
Episode 02
An info-filled video breaking down the steps of flower processing, including bucket selection, cleaning solution, filling process, and basic flower care for the most common varieties used in wedding flowers!
Episode 01
A rundown of an average week in my life as a self-employed wedding floral designer!
